The Senior Graphic Designer, Interpretation performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that supports San Diego Zoo Global’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The Senior Graphic Designer concepts and designs interpretive guest experiences that illustrate animal characteristics and behaviors as well as complex ecological and conservation concepts within exhibit areas. The Senior Graphic Designer, Interpretation will utilize a combination of 2D and 3D signage, sculpture, and interactive elements to create themed experiences that immerse and engage guests and increase their understanding of key animal and plant natural history and conservation concepts. Working collaboratively with multiple departments in the organization, the Interpretive Senior Designer assists stakeholders to identify their needs within each project and visualize them. This position reports to the Associate Director of Marketing, Design. Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Architecture, or a related design field or equivalent specialized training. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a zoo, aquarium, museum, or cultural or performing arts institution with work in environmental design or graphic design. Skills in AutoCAD and SketchUp as well as photography and videography is a plus.
