The Exploratorium seeks an experienced grants professional to join its Institutional Advancement Department, a dynamic and fast-paced team of 20 staff who together are responsible for raising over $20 million each year. The Grants Manager is responsible for four main strands of work: 1) developing and implementing a fundraising strategy focused on private foundations; 2) researching, developing, writing, and editing competitive proposals to foundations and government agencies for Exploratorium programs; 3) working with senior program staff to clarify grant needs and opportunities within the museum; and 4) cultivating and stewarding relationships with institutional funders. This individual will also be responsible for identifying new funding prospects.
The work is fast paced with frequent deadlines, requires the ability to work closely with a wide range of staff, and to work independently. A successful candidate will have superior writing skills and proven success with raising funds from institutions. They must also possess sophisticated project management, organizational, and proposal budgeting skills. This position is expected to manage and grow a grants portfolio of approximately 40-60 foundation prospects and 2-3 government prospects. The successful candidate will be part of a four person grants team responsible for enacting a multi-year grants fundraising strategy.
