2011-15 STRATEGIC PLAN
With funding support from The James Irvine Foundation, and the guidance of Gail Anderson & Associates, a multi-stepped planning process was undertaken in 2010 to guide the future of CAM. Specifically, the Board and staff assessed the impact of external issues such as economic pressures, shifts in technology and communication networks, and the changing backdrop for nonprofits in the social sector. The result, Leading California Museums into the Future, presents the strategies and directions for CAM as a 21st century association capitalizing on its legacy and responsiveness to the evolving external environment and needs of museums and the communities they serve.
The new mission … "Leading California Museums into the Future" is supported by three key strategies that form the underpinnings and direction of this Plan:
- Collaborative learning networks
- Trends and legislation monitoring impacting California and its museums
- Leadership cultivation across the State
As a result of implementing these three strategies, CAM leadership envisions new methods for delivering services while building a more cohesive museum community and a more relevant future for museums in a changing California. These strategies are central to achieving the three primary goals:
- Goal 1: Foster Community
- Goal 2: Heighten advocacy
- Goal 3: Build capacity
Ultimately, CAM is committed to engaging leaders throughout the State to harness the wisdom needed to shoulder such an ambitious agenda. This is a collaborative effort and CAM welcomes broad participation.
