PAST PROGRAMS


The following are education programs CAM hosted in the recent past:

  • The 2013 CAM Conference in Santa Barbara, California was held February 20-22 and was attended by 452 museum professionals.  There were 34 sessions, 3 workshops, 3 tours, 10 Maker Stations, round table dicussions, and two town hall programs.   • The 2012 CAM Conference in Berkeley, California was held February 15-17 and was attended by 510 museum professionals.  There were 31 sessions, 5 workshops, 12 Maker Stations, 14 vendor showcases, a round table dicussion, and two town halls.   • The 2011 CAM Conference in Pasadena, CA, held March 2-4, was highly successful, with over 480 museum professionals in attendance, 34 sessions, 5 workshops, and over 20 exhibitors, vendors, and sponsors. Go to 2011 Conference to view the final conference program.
  • In November 2010, CAM partnered with the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, California Exhibition Resources Alliance, Cultural Connections, and Museum Educators of Southern California to bring the 2010 Smith Symposium Motivation, Innovation and Impact: Understanding Audience Experience to three locations in the state, as well as a webcast. This program explored current research into why people visit museums and how they engage in, and benefit from, the experience. Go to 2010 Workshop for more information about this program. 
  • The 2010 CAM Conference in San Jose, CA, held March 3-5, brought 350 museum professionals to the Silicon Valley to Reflect on Tech. Sessions, Tech Tours, workshops, and events explored strategies for strengthening museums and communities through technology.  Go to 2010 Conference for more information or to view the final program.
  • In Novemebr 2009, California Association of Museums (CAM) and the California Exhibition Resources Alliance (CERA) organized a one-day workshop, titled "The Future of Fieldtrips", to proactively address the challenges that schools and museums are facing in providing educational experiences outside of the classroom, especially during these challenging economic times. Over 100 museum professionals joined us in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Go to 2009 Workshops for more infromation about this program.
  • The Museum Computer Network’s California Special Interest Group (Cal SIG) and CAM co-presented a regional meeting in September 2009 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Thirty colleagues from Southern California gathered for the day to learn about projects and initiatives in their region.
  • The 2009 CAM Conference in San Francisco, February 25-28, 2009 saw record attendance with 451 museum professionals taking part in 31 sessions, 3 workshops, and a sold out exhibit hall. Go to 2009 Conference to view the final conference program.
  • The 2008 Workshop titled Art & Artifact Handling: Basic Training Guidelines was organized by CAM, California Exhibition Resources Alliance (CERA), Registers Committee-Western Region (RC-WR), and Packing Arthandling Crating Information Network (PACIN), sponsored by Cooke's Crating, and was attended by 130 people.
  • The 2008 CAM Conference in Fresno, February 25-27, 2008 was the root of seeds of change which offered 29 sessions, four workshops, and three evening events for over 350 museum workers. Go to 2008 Conference to view the final conference program
  • The 2007 Workshop titled Communicating Your Identity: Strategies for Branding and Marketing for Small and Mid-sized Museums, cosponsored by the California Exhibition Resources Alliance.
  • The 2007 CAM Conference in Long Beach, February 21-23, 2007 was highly successful, with over 420 museum professionals in attendance, 25 sessions, 3 workshops, and over 30 exhibitors, vendors, and sponsors. Go to 2007 Conference to view the final conference program.
  • The 2006 Regional Workshop Series presented two training opportunities that focused on Audience Development. The training sessions provided over 70 museum professionals with the tools to create a work-plan for audience development, including setting goals, developing strategies to attain goals, and measuring the results.
  • The 2006 CAM Conference in Monterey, February 21-24, 2006, which offered 23 educational programs, two workshops, and three events at Monterey museums for about 340 museum workers.
  • The 2005 Regional Workshop Series offered nine training opportunities for over 250 museum professionals in audience development, strategic planning, disaster planning, fundraising, and visitor experience.
