| 2008 CAM CONFERENCE WRAP-UP |
If you weren't in Fresno last week, you missed a great conference! The 2008 CAM Conference, Seeds of Change: CAM in the Heart of California, was a very successful event. We heard repeatedly from participants how impressed they were with the content of the sessions. The following are some comments we've received thus far:
Fresno's hospitality was outstanding! Thank you to the Table Mountain Rancheria, Fresno Art Museum, Fresno Chaffee Zoo, Fresno Metropolitan Museum of Art & Science, Kearny Mansion Museum, and the Downing Planetarium for hosting enjoyable events, workshops, and free admission to conference registrants. They truly rolled out "the red carpet" for their museum colleagues.
The Green Museums Initiative continues to take bold steps to green the conference! In our second effort to green the annual conference, CAM and the Green Museums Initiative (GMI) committee members were given an opportunity to discuss green issues, test sustainable options, and share environmentally sound solutions with museum colleagues. A truly green conference isn’t necessarily something you can readily see, so the GMI committee members and CAM staff work hard to make these ideas and our process visible, both at the conference and on the web. To view a booklet outlining the steps to "green" the CAM conference, visit http://www.greenmuseums.info.
The 2008 CAM Conference would not have been a success without the support of our sponsors, exhibitors, and host organizations. Below is a list of the organizations and companies that helped make our gathering of museum professionals an enjoyable and effective event. For complete lists of our Program, Host, and Green Museums Initiative Committees, see http://www.calmuseums.org/conferences_and_workshops/2008overview.html.

Socioeconomic trends such as aging and other factors have contributed to the growth of a disabled population in the United States. People with disabilities make up a large and diverse group, with estimates that 50 million adults, or one out of every five, has a disability or impairment that causes limitations in activities. These limitations may include physical and developmental disabilities, speech, hearing and visual impairments, or the natural effects of the aging process. With 20% of the population being affected, CAM would like to know if your museum is offering programs specifically targeted to this population and/or designed with accessibility in mind.
