| MEETING FELLOW COLLEAGUES AND SHARING AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES AMONG TOP BENEFITS OF CAM & CERA FALL WORKSHOPS |
Over 50 California museum professionals participated in one of two audience development workshops offered by CAM and the California Exhibition Resources Alliance (CERA) this fall at the Oakland Museum of California and the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. Evaluation forms collected at both workshops indicate that creating individual audience development action plans; sharing real-world results and practical resources for implementing their own audience development programs; and, networking with colleague in group discussions were among the top ranked activities.
The one-day workshops were taught by Margaret Kadoyama, a community involvement specialist. Activities focused on helping participants learn about and understand their current and potential audiences and provided tools to approach new audiences strategically. Attendees created work-plans for audience development, including setting goals, developing strategies to attain goals, and measuring results.
CAM & CERA thank the James Irvine Foundation and the host museums, the Oakland Museum of California and the Autry National Center, for their generous support of this program series.

STUDY FINDS FOUNDATION SUPPORT FOR MANY CALIFORNIA COUNTIES INSUFFICIENT

The report, Foundation Giving in California: A Snapshot of Foundation Giving, Asset Distribution and Regional Disparities Among Private and Community Foundations, finds many counties in the Inland Empire and Central Valley receive less than $10 per capita in annual foundation giving, compared to $102 per capita across the state. Compiled from 2003 data -- the most recent year available from most foundations -- the report provides details on private and community foundation activity. The report also notes changes in the role of community foundations in the state's philanthropic landscape.
