| FOUNDATION CENTER OFFERS ONLINE RESOURCES AND RELEASES ARTS EDUCATION FUNDING REPORT |
The Foundation Center, a non-profit resource center, has created a searchable database of the literature of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. Listings include reports, funding directories, and Internet resources dealing with planning, collaboration, evaluation, and resource development. They contain citations to selected works from the Foundation Center's bibliographic database of Literature of the Nonprofit Sector (LNPS) Online. You may search the LNPS Online at http://lnps.fdncenter.org/.
In addition, the Foundation Center and Grantmakers in the Arts recently released a report, The Foundation Funding for Arts Education: An Overview of Recent Trends, which states that charitable giving for arts education grew faster than arts giving overall between 1999 and 2003. In the latter year, programs serving children and youth received over 40 percent of the $208.8 million given for arts education by the largest U.S. foundations. Released jointly by the Foundation Center and Grantmakers in the Arts, the report was funded by The Wallace Foundation. ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF THE JAMES IRVINE FOUNDATION LEADERSHIP AWARDS
The James Irvine Foundation announced the launch of the Leadership Awards, which will recognize individual leaders throughout California who are advancing innovative and effective solutions to significant social issues facing our state. Given the many challenges facing California, this awards program offers the Foundation an exciting and creative way to celebrate and honor the individual ingenuity and creativity that is both a hallmark of California and that will positively influence our shared future. The awards program will both provide direct financial support for the effective approaches implemented by these leaders and highlight the tremendous impact that individuals with vision, passion, and focus can have. The awards program also intends to draw attention to the issues these leaders are working on and the solutions they have identified. Philanthropy can play an important role not only in providing financial resources to address problems, but also in helping to lift up examples of effective and creative ways to solve such problems. The leadership awards program will be intentionally multipurpose in nature, permitting us to support leaders from a wide range of fields, including those outside of our regular grantmaking priorities. For more information, go to: http://www.irvine.org/.
