| ONLY TWO WEEKS LEFT TO REGISTER FOR "FUN" FUNDRAISING WORKSHOP |
The deadline to register for the CAM workshop Fundraising Strategies: A Grab-bag of Ideas and Tools is Wednesday, September 14, 2005! This program promises to be an entertaining and comprehensive education in current museum fundraising techniques with presentations by three seasoned development professionals. It will provide "one-stop shopping" for a variety of fundraising strategies, including membership, sponsorships, major gifts, planned giving, and special events and be especially pertinent to small and mid-sized museums. Representing institutions that vary in size and discipline, the presenters will discuss development efforts that have been effective for their institutions and provide samples. To put the fun back in fundraising, there will be a raffle, a special events game, and plenty of time to share ideas! The workshop will take place on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. This workshop is held in conjunction with the Western Museums Association's conference in Pasadena and Los Angeles, "A Rose by Any Other Name: Integrity, Mission, Authenticity," September 28 - October 2, 2005. Moderated by Stephen Becker, Executive Director of the California Historical Society and CAM President, the workshop will feature presentations by: Robin Venuti, Development Director, Monterey Museum of Art; Jill Rode, Development Director, Santa Barbara Zoo, and Gina Tan, Director of Membership and Annual Fund, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.

Heritage Preservation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) are pleased to announce upcoming changes to the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) starting in FY 2006. The changes will allow more museums to participate and will streamline the application process. CAP will be administered through a cooperative agreement between IMLS and Heritage Preservation with two modifications to the eligibility requirements: the number of days per year a museum must be open to the public will change from 120 days to 90 days; and for organizations who participated in CAP prior to 1999, there is an opportunity to update their assessment through ReCAP. The FY 2006 CAP applications will be available on Friday, October 7, 2005, at the Heritage Preservation's Web: www.heritagepreservation.org. To be added to Heritage Preservation's CAP mailing list, or for more information, please contact Maria Galban at mgalban@heritagepreservation.org or 202-233-0832.
