IDENTIFYING RISKS AND PROTECTING YOUR COLLECTION FROM NATURAL DISASTERS

The 2005 CAM Regional Workshop Series continues in August with a focus on protecting collections against natural disasters. Earthquakes and their secondary effects incorporate a multitude of risk challenges in California. In order to preserve the cultural resources entrusted to museums, this workshop will give staff members and volunteers the tools and knowledge to identify the threats that place our collections at risk and develop ways to safeguard them for the future. There will be handouts on a variety of related topics such as disaster preparedness planning, conservation resources, and storage equipment companies as well as actual samples of materials available to safeguard collections. Participants will also be given an opportunity to ask questions pertaining to their own particular concerns and needs. The presenters are: Louis Goldich, Museum Consultant, and former registrar at the San Diego Museum of Art for twenty-six years; Donna Williams, Conservator; and William Allen, Collection Insurance Broker, Henderson Phillips.
