| CAM CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR WORKSHOPS & ARTICLES |
The California Association of Museums (CAM) invites proposals for one-day workshops and/or newsletter articles that will provide valuable tools, resources, or information to the museum field in California. A complete call for proposals can be found at CALL FOR PROPOSALS, with instructions on how and where to submit a proposal. Please submit all proposals by December 1, 2004.
CAM is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a regional workshop series in 2005, based on the success of past programs. These workshops began in response to many requests from CAM members for affordable, regionally accessible programs. In 2003, the Getty Grant Program funded two workshops entitled Conservation and Museum Exhibition: Display Cases that Preserveone in San Francisco and one in Los Angeles. The 2005 workshop series will address training needs of museum professionals across California, in a variety of subjects.
In addition, CAM will be introducing a new newsletter design, with features that examine museum trends or issues facing California institutions. We are looking for articles for three upcoming issues and ask for submissions from museum professionals. Proposals are invited from the field for interesting, thought-provoking, and current issues that will benefit the diverse California museum industry.
These workshops should be interactive and provide essential services, tools, and/or information that assist employees and volunteers in California museums to better perform their duties, protect their collections, obtain necessary resources, and/or serve their audiences.
Please feel free to contact Celeste DeWald, Executive Director, at 831/471-9970 or cam@calmuseums.org if you have any questions or comments. Thank you for your interest in participating in CAM’s programs.

CONSERVATION ASSESSMENT PROGRAM GRANTS NOW AVAILABLE
CAP is a non-competitive federal grant that provides funds for small to mid-sized museums to hire a professional conservator, approved by Heritage Preservation, for a two-day site visit. The CAP assessor uses the site visit to examine the museum’s collections, environmental conditions, and sites. The assessor then writes a report recommending priorities to improve collections care. The resulting CAP report can help your institution develop strategies for improved collections care, long-range planning, staff and board education, and fund-raising. If your museum is located in a historic building (50 years or older), CAP will support the participation of a preservation architect as well. Zoos, aquariums, nature centers, botanical gardens, and arboreta may have one of their CAP assessors look at conservation needs of their living collections. For more information or to receive an application, visit www.heritagepreservation.org. Grants are available to eligible museums on a first-come, first-served basis until the postmark deadline of December 1, 2004.
