| PROTECTING COLLECTIONS FROM PESTS AND MOLD |
The California Preservation Program will be presenting two workshops on protecting cultural collections from pests and mold:
Controlling Pests: Where Eating Is Not Permitted
Monday, October 18, 2004 - William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, Los Angeles
Thursday, October 21, 2004 - Berkeley Public Library, Berkeley
This workshop is designed as an introduction to integrated pest management (IPM) for cultural institutions. The IPM approach to preventing and managing pest infestation relies on regular monitoring, documentation, and primarily non-chemical prevention. The workshop will include information on developing an IPM program and a review of pests most often found in cultural collections.
Be Prepared * Managing a Mold Invasion
Tuesday, October 19, 2004 - William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, Los Angeles
Friday, October 22, 2004 - Berkeley Public Library, Berkeley
This workshop provides an understanding of how and why mold blooms occur and gives strategies for prevention. The immediate responses to inactivate an outbreak will be reviewed in addition to follow-up procedures to prevent future outbreaks. The safety and health hazards will also be underscored.
Registration at 9:30 a.m. Each workshop program is 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attendance at both workshops is strongly recommended but not required. The speaker for both workshops is Dr. Thomas Parker, President and Entomologist of Pest Control Services, Inc., a consulting firm which develops and implements integrated pest management programs for libraries, archives, museums, historic structures, and collections. Registration: $50.00 for 1 workshop; $85.00 for both workshops. Pre-registration required; includes lunch.
